Experts estimate that humans spend about one-third of their lives at work. Work shapes a significant part of our adult life. Many of us find happiness and fulfillment in the work we do. Others of us struggle, finding it difficult to find joy at the job site. We can choose to try and change our attitude toward our work. After all, our attitude is something we have the power to choose. We can go in and be miserable or we can focus on our purpose at work and trust that our efforts bring value to our workplace. As with all things, we can choose to pray for our work in advance of the work day. Praying for our work can lead to a transformation in our attitude and help increase our productivity by improving our outlook. It’s no secret that a happy worker is more productive than an unhappy counterpart. As believers, let us approach work with a joyful heart.
”Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…”
Colossians 3:23 (ESV)
Father God, may Your Spirit go with me as I enter my place of work. Help me delight in my work and help me share that delight with my co-workers so that we may toil with joyful hearts, grateful for the work You have provided for each of us. Help me perform my job with excellence, completing tasks correctly and timely. May I be the light to others who do not know You so that one day they may come to call You Lord. Give me strength in the highs and lows of the day and help me be a vessel of peace and love. May I work humbly, in truth, and with gladness. Amen and amen.
