May the Words of my Mouth

In preparing to serve at the Dallas Processing Center for Operation Christmas Child, I have been praying that the words of David in Psalm 19:14 would be true of me.

May the words of my mouth
and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable to You,
Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.

Psalm 19:14 (HCSB)

David closes this wisdom song with a prayer that his words and thoughts might be pleasing to the Lord. As you and I let the words of Scripture influence our lives and inform how we live, we experience what living life sacrificially looks like.

The Lord is the very foundation of our life and the One who bought us with the precious blood of Christ. While we were yet sinners, God brought us near to Him through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Because of this initiative, Paul urges us to allow ourselves to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

“The Word in the hand is fine; the Word in the head is better; but the Word in the heart is what transforms us and matures us in Christ.”

Warren Wiersbe

As I continue to grow in my faith and understanding of Jesus Christ, I’ve noticed that my thoughts and desires, like my priorities, are changing. It matters to me if I live a life that is pleasing to the Lord. That is one way that I know I have been saved and that I am a new creation. That doesn’t mean my walk is perfect. It’s not. It does mean that I view thinking, saying, and doing anything that offends God much more seriously than I once did.

I love the Lord and I love people. I want to make God known and help people know God.

Prayer:

Lord, help me love others the way You love me. May my thoughts, words, and actions be pleasing to You, my God. Empower me with the ability to help make You known so that they too will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and not perish but enjoy Your gracious gift of eternal life. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

How has the Lord transformed your mind?

Are you a new creation in Christ?

Would people say that your walk with God is authentic?

To experience life the way God intended, you and I must receive God’s gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. This gift from God is available to all who ask. Will you personally receive the gift of eternal life so that you can experience the total forgiveness from your sins that come through believing in the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
