The value of an honest day’s work is a tenet taught throughout Scripture. God’s Word encourages each of us to work diligently, keeping our faith in Him at the forefront of our mind, so that our light will shine through the manner and in the quality of the work we perform.
Starting a new job can be exciting and terrifying. We look forward to what a new opportunity will bring, yet we may be uneasy about a new beginning. This affords us the perfect chance to lean on God and not our ourselves.
As believers, everything we do should be bathed in prayer and informed by Scripture.
Perhaps, like me, you’re starting a new job today. Here are 7 verses I found that speak truth and encouragement into this next chapter you’re beginning today.
Blessings,

Psalm 90:17 (ESV)
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and establish the work of our hands upon us;
yes, establish the work of our hands!
Proverbs 10:4-5 (ESV)
4 A slack hand causes poverty,
but the hand of the diligent makes rich.
5 He who gathers in summer is a prudent son,
but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.
Matthew 5:13-16 (ESV)
13 You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. 14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Romans 12:1-2 (ESV)
12 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Colossians 3:23-24 (ESV)
23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
Titus 2:7-8 (ESV)
7 Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, 8 and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.
Your Bible selections are very appropriate. Some are ones that I enjoy reading and focusing on. Philippians 4:13 is on the cover of my writing notebook.

Thanks bigskybuckeye! I’m glad these verses hit a chord with you. P4:13 is one of my favorite memory verses. Leading into “my first day” I was thinking about my approach and attitude a lot. These Scriptures seem to address those aspects. Thanks for reading and engaging. Blessings!
