Spurring One Another On To Love And Good Deeds

The other day I commented on my fellow blogger David Duncan’s blogpost. In response, David encouraged me to write this post.

“Spur one another on to love and good deeds,” is a phrase derived from a verse in the New Testament of the Good Book (specifically, from the book of Hebrews). The verse reads as follows:

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”

Hebrews 10:24 (NIV)

This verse encourages believers to actively engage with one another in a way that promotes and encourages acts of love and good works. It emphasizes the critical importance of community and the mutual responsibility Christians enjoy in supporting and encouraging each other in living out their faith and in doing good deeds.

By spurring one another on, fellow believers are urged to inspire and motivate one another to act in love towards others. We are compelled to carry out acts of kindness and service that benefit those around us. Spurring each other on is a call to foster a community that is characterized by love, compassion, and active engagement in intentional actions that bring about positive change and result in making a difference in the lives of others.

In a tumultuous world overflowing with challenges and uncertainty, the ability to instill hope in people’s lives can have a profound impact. Spurring one another on gives us the opportunity to shine as purposeful dealers of hope and encouragement in a world that at times feels super hopeless and increasingly discouraging.

We all have the power to uplift and inspire one another. Each of us can encourage acts of kindness, compassion, and service in our interactions and dealings with other people by being purposeful dealers of hope and encouragement.

Being a purposeful dealer in hope and a source of encouragement is a continuous journey. It is a lifetime experience. By embodying hope, practicing empathy, and taking intentional actions, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others and contribute to a more loving, kind, and peaceful world. We can be the encouragement someone needs in their most desperate circumstances. We can encourage one another and spur one another on to love and good deeds.

Fellow believer: Don’t quit. Don’t give up. Jesus is still on the throne. He is coming back. In the meantime, let’s preach the gospel; use words when necessary. Show people Christlikeness through our intentional acts of love, kindness, and compassion.

May the love and peace of Christ, our Lord and Savior, go with you my brothers and sisters.
