Sounds like a boogie-woogie, horror movie title, doesn’t it? A recent commenter on one of my posts actually provided me with the title for this post. I didn’t really have an idea regarding the content (blogging, obviously?) of the post itself but sometimes you start with the music and other times you begin with the lyrics [That’s how creativity works].
On the surface, being bogged down in blogging sounds like it could be fun if you’re enjoying what you’re doing. If not, then probably not so much.
Remembering your “why” seems like a crucial factor in whether or not you’re getting a big dopamine hit or your system is overwhelmed with cortisol.

Do you remember why you started blogging in the first place?
Your “why” is what motivated you to begin a blog. Your “why” is different from others and uniquely your own. It’s the reason that fueled you to start typing the first words of your first post.
Don’t worry about numbers, likes, comments, and shares. They aren’t irrelevant. They do matter. But, they aren’t the be-all-end-all of blogging.
Remember: you are not your blog; your blog is a reflection of you. It’s not your lifeblood or the sum total of your identity. Your blog is an opportunity to make the world more beautiful.
Bogged down in blogging sounds like it could be a big, fun party. It also sounds like it could be a Freddy Krueger-style “Nightmare on Blog Street”.
If it’s the latter, do yourself a favor and move on to something else that enriches your life and rocks your soul. Life is too short to be miserable.
If it’s the former…PARTY ON!
Happy blogging,

You’re welcome. Yes, writing for clicks and views (and we can all be tempted to do it) quickly becomes a chore. It’s not any of our “whys.” Always write about what you want to write about. Blessings.

Thanks for this – been a bit burned out lately. Have to make sure I’m writing my passions and not what gets views or clicks. I appreciate the reminder. 🩷

I started blogging as a ministry. Over the years I’ve noticed that views are down in the summer. I guess people have other places to go besides in front of their computer, iPad or iPhone. Yet, there is validity to the provider pumping up sales to get more traffic. Back to basics of writing – what is it that attracts readers? Catchy titles and great first paragraphs. Consistency wins when you think of your blog being in front of people’s eyes on a regular basis. You do a great job, Rainer! Thank you for your service.

Helping other parents seems like a great “why” to me. Thank you for reading my post and providing your perspective.

I started my blog as a way to keep a journal. Though thinking about it, I would really like to help other parents to know that they aren’t going through things alone and that there are other people out there going through the same

That’s an interesting observation, David. I have had similar thoughts on WP attempting to make folks pay to boost their posts. I’ve seen conflicting stats in my dash as well. New algorithms seem to be designed to crush non-celebrity users or at least make it harder for the little guy—like the negative effect Wally World has on downtowns. Perseverance wins the race.

This sage advice, brother: why did I start blogging in the first place? Lately, my stats have taken a hit, but my posting schedule remains the same. What’s up with that, Word Press!? I think it has something to do with being able to boost your posts by paying more money to WP. The new algorithm lends itself to lower stats–tempting me to fork over the cash for a boost. No thanks, WP.
