August blusters in. The blistering heat is keeping me inside more than I like, however, since I’m allergic to everything outside, this is heatwave isn’t without some benefit.
I sweat fairly easily, without much effort. To the best of my knowledge, that’s always been the case. I remember that when we first moved to Texas I didn’t always fare well in the Summer heat.
Have you ever contemplated how people think?
It seems unusual to explore our thinking. I believe we get more caught up in our results and focus more attention on our actions yielding those results.
When it comes to our thinking, words matter. I was reminded of this fact while reading the cards and texts that I received for my birthday.
People used words like intentional, exceptional, bold, and noble to describe their impressions of me. Reading their words was powerful. They also used words like loved, friend, and difference maker.
Are you caught off guard by the words people use to describe you? I admit that I am.
Words of affirmation can have a profound effect on our thinking. Experience has taught me that positive thoughts lead to positive outcomes. At least, most of the time.

You’ve likely heard that insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. In addiction recovery, we call that stinking thinking.
Our thinking is revealed through the language we use. Listening to language reveals thinking. Our language can express extraordinary thinking.
I’m told our brains are filled with files that hold all the input we’ve received over the years, including the words other people spoke into our life. Yes, words can be life-giving. Words can also kill a person’s spirit.
Successful new realities aren’t created by using old adages or thinking in outdated paradigms. Like the Scriptures teach us: We can’t put new wine in old wine skins.
17 Nobody pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does that, the new wine will tear the old wineskins. He will lose the wine and the wineskins will spoil. Instead, you must put new wine into new wineskins. Then there will be nothing to spoil the wine or the wineskins.’
Matthew 9:17 (Easy English Bible)
Innovative transformation demands we replace our old thoughts with new ones. In order to do that, we need to employ fresh language.
“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, you’re right.”
Henry Ford, American Entrepreneur
What is your language revealing about you?

Yes, relying on God’s word to influence the words we think and speak is a great way to transform our thinking, Bridget. Thanks for reading and contributing to the conversation.

Thank you for this reminder. Words do make a difference – in our thoughts and in our speech. I find that meditating on God’s Word helps transform our words. But I admit, I need to focus more time on the right words – inside and out. Thank you, Rainer!
