5 + Bible Verses That Impact People’s Understanding of Faith

Hello Dear Reader:

The Texas heat let up off the gas for a smidgen and we experienced our first below 80 degree temperatures in over two weeks. The heat turns back up Thursday. It looks like we will witness another lengthy stretch of above 100 degree temperatures in the days ahead.

It’s good weather for staying inside, sipping iced tea, and reading some blogposts (I actually drink coffee, not iced tea).

How has a particular Bible verse or story impacted your understanding of faith?

For Terri, it’s a safe bet that you’ll hear her tell you that John 14:6 had a powerful, life-changing impact on her faith.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6 (NIV)

For me, I recall that Luke 9:23-24 really impacted me profoundly. Fresh out of Church Summer Camp, I’d given my life to Jesus. At the time, this did not seem to thrill my parents, especially not my Daddy.

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.

Luke 9:23-24 (NIV)

I remember wrestling with this passage after my Daddy and I had a heated argument about God. I think I was about twelve years old at the time. Having little to no Bible knowledge, I admittedly did not fully comprehend the words of Jesus.

Me, as a kid

Gleaned from conversations I’ve had with other people, here are 5 verses known to impact people’s understanding of faith:

For we live by faith, not by sight.

(2 Corinthians 5:7)

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

(Hebrews 11:6)

Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.

(Romans 14:1)

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

(Proverbs 3:5-6)

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

(Matthew 21:22)

Your turn.

This is a great encouragement to share Scriptures Rainer, good work brother 👏
For me I will cheat a wee bit and give my memory verse this week:
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
    — Matthew 5:16
This verse is precious to me because it always reminds me of the practicality of faith; that it needs to be shared with those we meet each day in acts of love.
