Do You Ever Wonder If Blogging Is Worth It?

My fellow blogger and dearest reader, if you’re like me, you’ve undoubtedly questioned whether the time and effort you spend blogging is actually worth it. True?

I guess the answer to that question depends on your purpose for blogging in the first place.

I think if you’re swimming in this conundrum of doubt it is a good idea to clarify what exactly it is that you want to achieve with your blog. Are you blogging to share your passion? Did you start blogging to build a brand and generate income? Is your purpose for blogging rooted in something else?

If you’re caught in a niche, maybe it’s time to take an assessment of what you’re doing and review what other bloggers in your niche are doing that is proving to be successful for them. No sense getting caught in a trap with no way out. Perhaps, there’s something you can learn from others that will help you improve your blog.

Consistency is certainly one key factor in attracting people to read your blog. But, you’ve also got to be posting something people care to read about as well as writing in a way that draws people to your blog. People may not know they are interested in the story you have to tell until you learn how to tell it. Always work on your skills so that the time and energy you devote to blogging pays off.

When it comes to analyzing the success of your blog, stats like visitors, views, likes, and comments tell part of the story. These key metrics help you identify what’s working and what’s not. I also like to look at how many loyal and repeat readers that my blog attracts. I think that repeat readers are a solid measure of the appeal of your blog and the original content you create.

So, tell me—do you ever wonder if blogging is worth it?

I will see you in the “comments” below.

Happy blogging!

  2. Less than 30 days since site was launched. I trust the Lord will continue to lead me in this ministry. Feeling like Israel as Joshua led them, “keep you eyes on the ark of God, you have not been this way before.”

  5. Interesting ,Alan. Thanks for sharing these thoughts. On the surface—from the outside looking in—I would imagine you have a very healthy blog that is doing quite well. Perhaps, some minor renovation is in order. You could try a new theme. Or…you could do something all together different. If you think of it similar to a band, bands rarely stay together forever—at least not with the same lineup intact.
I just realized I have lots of thoughts on this—probably a conversation better designed for an email exchange.
Thanks for reading and engaging with this post.

  6. Oh Devo Guy,

I have been through this thought process on more than one occasion. For me it comes down to what God is calling me to do in that season. There was a time that I “had to” publish something EVERY day. I often had things scheduled for a couple of weeks in advance.

    BUT NOW…

I work 40+ hours a week and am going to school. What used to be my blogging time is now used for studying and paper writing. I do manage to do some book reviews and an occasional 4-4-4 on Saturdays.

I am so glad that this community has given me grace and is still hanging in there with me.

    Have a wonderful week, Rainer.

A worthy blog Rainer! This is a question that has never been far from my mind recently, but seem to be stuck on how to address it fully. If we apply the economics of the product life cycle I am sure that my bell chart is about to pop…my reader numbers are certainly down this year. To further apply the economic/marketing strategy, companies usually have a relaunch/rebranding to boost sales…I am not sure whether that works in blogging though.
