October 5 | 7 Bible Verses on Generosity

Dear reader: I pray you’re finding this #Blogtober series on the joy of generosity helpful and encouraging. Next week, we will look at some Bible passages that clearly demonstrate generosity from a Christian perspective.

For today, I want to provide you 7 Bible verses on generosity. May they be edifying to you. Here they are:

Proverbs 19:17

Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Proverbs 22:9

The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.

Malachi 3:10-12

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.

Matthew 6:19-21

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Luke 11:13

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Acts 20:35

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

1 John 3:16-18

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

You’ll notice two of the verses are from the wisdom book of Proverbs. Proverbs speaks a lot about money and how we should view it, use it, and not abuse it.

I hope these verses will encourage you to dig deeper in God’s Word so that you can understand money from a Biblical perspective.

I pray you’re enjoying our #Blogtober adventure focusing on the theme of generosity from a Christian perspective. May you be equipped and edified through this journey and most importantly—may God be exalted and glorified.

I look forward to seeing you in the “comments”!

Abundant Blessings,
