What Is A Blogger’s Role During Uncertain Times?

Uncertainty.

It grips our our daily lives.

Uncertainty makes people nervous and agitated. It taps into the basic aspects of being human. Fear. Anxiety. Stress. Doubt. Frustration. Hopelessness. It’s how our brains are wired.

As I wrote this, the world appears to be on the brink of a third global war—World War 3 feels like it’s just around the corner. The global news is already touting an evil axis comprised of China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

How would such an event impact your life? It seems like it would turn my world upside down. Am I prepared for it? Are you?

What is a blogger’s role during times of worldwide uncertainty?

A blogger’s role during times of global uncertainty can involve providing information, support, and creating a sense of community. Bloggers can contribute to the holistic well-being of our audience by disseminating accurate information, encouraging empathy, and addressing the unique challenges of uncertain times head-on. This requires boldness, courage, and diligence.

Fresh off a global pandemic, in the midst of growing economic hardships, and immersed in political chaos, the WORLD is facing numerous defining moments of unprecedented uncertainty.

No doubt, we live in chaotic and turbulent times.

Obviously, a blogger can also serve as a source of encouragement, hope, and optimism.

Blogging during times of uncertainty can be a valuable way to connect with our audience and provide support and information.

Here are some tips for effective blogging amid tones of global uncertainty:

  1. Stay Informed: It is important, particularly as Believers, to stay informed and updated on the situations or topics that we address on our blogs so that we provide accurate and timely information.
  2. Be empathetic: Understanding the emotions and concerns of our audience, we must address them with empathy and compassion. It’s better to be kind at no cost than it is to be right at all costs.
  3. Offer Solutions: It’s easy to complain. We must offer our audience alternatives, not just complaints. We should use our platform to offer practical tips, advice, or solutions to help our readers navigate this era of unprecedented uncertainty.
  4. Maintain Consistency: I’ve said it before: whether you post daily, once a week, once a month—stick to a regular posting schedule. It’s like newspaper deliveries of old. You anticipated getting your paper around the same time every day. A consistent posting schedule allows your audience to to stay engaged and keep up with the information you’re sharing with them.
  5. Share Personal Experiences: Make it personal. During times of uncertainty, people lean on those who’ve weathered the storm—or at least some storm—in the past. It gives you more credibility. Sharing your own experiences and struggles makes your content more relatable and authentic.
  6. Encourage Discussion: We don’t all have to agree on everything all of the time. Fostering a sense of community by encouraging readers to share their thoughts and experiences in the comments section is vital to keeping it real and engaging. Heck, a reader might read your post and respond with a post of their own. Lean into that. Don’t shy away from it.
  7. Focus on Positivity: Addressing issues and challenges truthfully and honestly is important. It’s also important to highlight positive outcomes, resilience, and hope to encourage our readers and followers..
  8. Leverage Visuals: Pictures tell stories. Sometimes, pictures tell stories far better than words. Use visuals like images, infographics, and videos to help tell the story and to make your blog’s content more engaging.
  9. Be Transparent: It’s okay not to have all the answers. Be honest. Be real. Transparency builds trust.
  10. Adapt Your Content: When covering real world events, we must recognize that situations evolve. We need to recognize when circumstances change and adapt accordingly.

Remember that your blog can be a source of support and guidance to those reading it. There’s too much going on in our world to ignore it. We shouldn’t shy away from the challenges we face. Rather, we should lean into them and report our findings and share our experiences.

Speaking about current events and addressing the uncertainty of our times is something I believe we are called to do as bloggers—particularly as bloggers of faith.

Happy blogging!

  1. Amen, brother. Thanks for reading and contemplating what I’m trying to convey, Andy. Evil only needs good people to remain silent for it to succeed.

A very sober and serious post Rainer, but definitely needed in these present times. Our world is certainly in a precarious state and it appears that the media is not being very helpful in reporting events accurately. What’s worse is that the media seems bent on promoting the worst case scenario. With all that I agree that as Christian bloggers we have an important role to fill; to tell the truth from a Biblical viwpoint and to encourage our readers.
God bless you today brother 🙏
