What’s Good About Good Friday?

Good Friday is a day of immense significance in the Christian faith, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His death at Calvary. It’s a day of deep reflection on the ultimate sacrifice for humanity’s sins, offering a profound perspective on love, forgiveness, and redemption. The prophet Isaiah foresaw what makes Good Friday good.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

Written centuries before Christ’s crucifixion, this verse from Isaiah prophesies the suffering the Messiah would endure to bring salvation to humanity. This verse serves as a poignant reminder of the depth of God’s love for us. Ultimately, in the person of Jesus Christ, the Father’s love for us is manifested in His son’s willingness to bear unimaginable pain and suffering for our sake.

Good Friday invites each of us to meditate on the gravity of Christ’s sacrifice, not merely as an historical event, but as a personal gift of grace offering peace and healing to our own brokenness. We are encouraged to confront our own sins and to embrace the forgiveness that comes through God’s ultimate act of love.

How does this immense sacrifice impact our daily lives and relationships?

The goodness of God, demonstrated to us through love and sacrifice on Good Friday, points us toward a posture of gratitude, humility, and a desire to mirror a similar selfless love in our interactions with others.

The love of God for us is profound. It was fully demonstrated for us on the Cross through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. In Him, we discover forgiveness and the gift of eternal life.

That’s what’s good about Good Friday.
