Fruit of the Spirit: Patience

Dear reader: Thank you for patiently waiting on this post. Today, we will continue on our journey exploring the different aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

Our world often values speed and efficiency over depth and quality. We celebrate the superficial, avoiding the abyss of pain and suffering. In this crazy, mixed up, upside down world, patience stands out as a divine attribute. It can transform our lives and relationships, if we’re willing to let it. In his letter to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul lists patience as a crucial piece of the fruit of the Spirit. Patience isn’t merely waiting without complaint; it’s a deeper, active endurance that is rooted in faith. Patience means trusting in God’s timing, bearing burdens with others, and maintaining a peaceful heart in the midst of life’s storms. Patience shines as a reflection of God’s own long suffering with us. As we cultivate patience, we begin to see beyond the immediate. We start to understand others more deeply and to act in love rather than in frustration or anger. Patience is a divine virtue that opens our hearts to the fullness of God’s plans for us, encouraging us to wait on the Lord with hopeful expectation and in anticipation of Christ’s return.

How can viewing patience as an active, faith-filled time of waiting change your approach to challenging situations (or people) that test your patience?

Life is full of problems. Be a solution.

Know you are loved.
