If I Created a Holiday

If I created a holiday I wonder what kind of holiday I would create? Surely, it would wrap all my favorite things into one—the best things about Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, and New Year’s. What if I were to throw in a smidgen of July 4th and Memorial Day?

Invent a holiday! Explain how and why everyone should celebrate.

Day One Prompt

On this eve of our national election, I wonder what it might be like if we came together in a celebration of shared growth, unity, and gratitude. Is that even possible in our current cultural climate?

What if we celebrated a Becoming Together Day? It could be a day of gathering and connecting—a day of community—where everyone honors personal milestones and reflects on the ways we’re all interconnected. Let’s call it Unity Day!

Unity Day would be a time of celebrating the past, present, and future. It would serve as a day that captures the spirit of togetherness, gratitude, and collective growth. It would be a day to focus on honoring both our individual journeys as well as the ways we support and encourage each other as a community.

ānnes—a term that originates from the Old English word ān, meaning “one.”

It morphed into compound words that communicated ideas of singularity, wholeness, and togetherness.

Families and friends would gather together and share their stories, remember our loved ones, express gratitude and thankfulness as we celebrate the freedom we enjoy to grow into our unique selves, created in the image of God.

We would reminisce and look forward to the future with great anticipation and enthusiastic expectation.

Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:3 NIV

Unity Day would be a celebration of our individual uniqueness, need for togetherness, and commitment to freedom.

We are different, yet we are one.

It would truly be a day where we recognize the need for each other.

Now we just need to decide when we would celebrate it. Thoughts? Suggestions?

  1. Rainer, I like the idea of a Unity Day. One of my frequent prayer themes shares similar feelings with our heavenly Father. Regardless of which political party is in power, our nation to celebrate our common goal to keep US more unified.
