Looking Ahead with Great Uncertainty

I believe there is a high degree of uncertainty about what my life will be like in three years. I picture Terri and I will be looking after our aging parents, if the three of them are still living.

What will your life be like in three years?

Terri and I will still be working and getting more settled into our next season of life. We are rounding the corner career-wise as retirement age is peaking over the horizon.

I envision my work as a visual artist expanding and growing and I see my blogging becoming a fruitful venture that leads to new revenue streams.

Our cat crew will still be chilling with us and we are likely to morph further into being homebodies.

The Biggest Factor

The biggest factor in what the next three years hold is the health of our aging parents. Terri’s dad, Gary will turn 87 Saturday. My mom, Karin, will turn 87 next March. Joyce, Terri’s mom, will be turning 85 soon. While they remain active, age is catching up with them.

It’s important for us to spend time with them because we know that it’s not something we can afford to take for granted.

All Work and No Play

Terri and I are both trying to find more work/life balance. We are no longer in the early stages of our work careers. Truthfully, we are nearer to the end. No one is building their future with us as the keys to the success of the franchise.

Through our careers, we gained a lot of wisdom and experience. It’s time for us to pass on some of the lessons we learned to the next generation. This isn’t necessarily an easy fact to grasp for us.

We recognize (and often feel) age is coming for us, too. We walked out of our first concert the other day because it was too loud. [Seriously, the bass reverberated through the seats so much it became nauseating.]

However, we also want to spend more quality time together doing things we enjoy. We want to make our home the best place for us that it can be.

The Future is Overflowing with Uncertainty

Regardless of who wins the election, I believe we are in a time of continuing unrest and great uncertainty. There are days when I remain very hopeful about our future. But, the world often feels like it is headed toward Armageddon. It’s hard to fight off this harsh, dystopian view of the future.

What do you think? Are you hopeful and optimistic about what the next three years will bring or are you wary and skeptical of a world that is spinning out of control?

See you in the COMMENTS!

Until our next conversation…
