In this post I am responding to a prompt I received via Barb who blogs regularly on her site My Life in Our Father’s World and is a faithful reader of my blog.
Choose 4 things within 4 feet of you and write for 4 minutes. One sentence each.
It’s dark. Silence engulfs the house as Boss, one of our cats, scurries around. I can hear someone in the litter box. Rice is asleep behind me, nestled on top of the couch’s
My favorite coffee cup that we bought when we visited Taos waits for me to drink its contents before the freshly brewed coffee inside it grows cold.

The shadowy outlines of neighboring trees decorate our window facing our patio. I can tell there’s a slight breeze blowing based on the sway of the trees.
I see the baby grand piano yearning to be played. It was gifted to me from the Vinyard family whom I once worked for many years ago. Paul had called to tell me his wife, Mary Beth would have wanted me to have it. She had passed unexpectedly, a month after Terri and I got married. It’s too early in the morning to play right now. Terri is still sleeping.
The light from the lamp on the nearby nightstand kicks on. Now I can see. The darkness in the living room is gone. I can see my coffee mug clearly now. My red journal sits next to it. There’s a bottle of water, too. Leaning against the wall is a copy of One: A Modern Psalm that Terri had framed for me.
My blue camouflage Crocs sit by the patio door begging me to put them on and go outside to watch the Sunday morning sunrise. It’s a bit early yet.
Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation.
I will be honored throughout the world.Psalm 46:10 NLT
I am intrigued by how this meditation slows me down and strengthens my focus. It is simple, not complicated.
It’s an interesting exercise. I encourage you to try it.
Until my next post…

Good morning, David. I really like how it caused me to slow down. Yes, it definitely spurred me to type words early this morning. I tend to lose track of time when I’m writing these posts. I’d venture to say an hour sometimes two per post. But it could actually be more from start to finish. Have a blessed Sunday!

God morning, brother. I’m an earlier riser, too. I’ve tried this exercise before and liked it as well. I believe it was called 5 minute Friday. The goal was to write for 5 minutes about 5 things within 5 feet of you. This exercise certainly clears the congestion of writers block! It often takes me an hour to write 400 words.
