What’s Your Favorite Christmas Story?

Christmas is a season rich with numerous stories that warm our hearts, stir our imaginations, and remind us of deeper truths.

Whether it’s the familiar Gospel accounts of Christ’s birth, tales of redemption like Dicken’s A Christmas Carol, or modern classics like The Polar Express, Christmas has birthed great stories that resonate with people all around the world. These stories touch something universal in us—hope, joy, and the promise of a fresh start.

For me, the Nativity story holds a special place in my heart. It’s the ultimate story of love and humility—God stepping into our broken world, not as a king in a palace but as a baby in a manger. It reminds me that God often works in unexpected ways to bring light to the darkest places.

But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.

Luke 1:30-31 NIV

But I also love how Christmas stories come in many forms. They don’t always need to be overtly religious to capture the spirit of the season. Sometimes, a story about community, generosity, or even restoration can point us back to the heart of Christmas.

So, I’d love to hear from you: What’s your favorite Christmas story? [Feel free to chime in with your own Christmas post (David)] Is it a timeless Biblical passage, a classic holiday film, or perhaps a personal memory that feels like its own story?

I look forward to you sharing your favorite Christmas stories as we celebrate this season of hope and wonder together.

Grace and peace,

Rainer Bantau—The Devotional Guy™

  3. “”Wonderful Life” is a favorite . I know many folks who love that movie and watch it every year. I will have to check out “The Christmas Shoes” as I don’t know that I’ve seen it. Perhaps I have and it’s lost somewhere in the old file cabinet of my mind.
Thanks for reading, commenting, and sharing.

  10. Thanks for sharing these beautiful memories, Alan. I remember “Touched By An Angel.” It’s one of my mom’s all time favorites. “light the lamp not the rat!”—-classic. Hilarious. There’s no way we can limit God. As often is said, He works through mysterious ways. He doesn’t waste a thing when it comes to making Himself known to us. Have a blessed day as well.

Christmas stories are special without a doubt, and yes I love all the Biblical accounts of our Lord’s birth and childhood. But I do love Christmas themed stories; two come to mind. The first is Mickey’s Christmas Carol based on the famous Dickens novel; it was our kid’s favourite, we still quote lines from it today lol (“light the lamp not the rat!”). The second one that comes to mind is from an old series that many of us watched, “Touched By An Angel.” The episode I remember for Christmas was “Fear Not!” with Randy Travis (s1e9) from 1994! I really believe that God can speak through such media too, getting people thinking of eternal matters. God bless you today brother Rainer 🙏
