Sunday Thoughts & Prayers

As another week winds to a close and another begins, I find myself reflecting on the journey of faith, creativity, and purpose. This past week has been one of wrestling with identity, seeking direction, and embracing the moments of silence where God speaks the loudest. I’ve asked myself “Who am I?” and “Who does God say I am?”

I’ve been reminded that our calling isn’t always straightforward. The loudest voice in the room isn’t always the rightest.

Sometimes, we find ourselves in places where our gifts seem underutilized or misunderstood. Other times, we feel the weight of expectations—whether from others or ourselves—shaping us into something we were never meant to be. Thankfully through it all, God continues His work in us, refining, redirecting, and revealing more of Himself.

I am honored to have a few works featured in the RCAS 59th Annual Spring Show.

In the creative process, I’ve been exploring the connection between light and dark, sound and color, and how these elements mirror our spiritual walk. Just as art requires contrast to bring depth and meaning, our faith journey is shaped by both the joy of clarity and the tension of uncertainty.

I’ve also been pondering silence—how it can be a source of strength, a place where we truly hear God, but also how it can be used to suppress, to stifle voices that need to be heard. There’s power in silence, but there’s also power in knowing when to break it. You have a voice; use it.

As we step into a new week, my prayer is that we find peace in the unknown, confidence in our calling, and wisdom in the quiet spaces where God is at work.

Sunday Prayer

Dearest Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of this past week—the lessons taught, the challenges faced, sprinkled with moments of Your grace. Help us walk boldly in the path You’ve set before us, even when it feels uncertain. May we embrace the tension between light and dark, between speaking and listening, and find You in the midst of it all. Strengthen our hearts, renew our minds, and guide our steps as we seek to glorify You in all we do. In the strong and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Thanks for reading, my friend. Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.

  1. Excellent point, David. Rests are important. I love the Sanford & Son theme. Now I will have to go back and listen to it. Composer Claude Debussy is known to have observed “Music is the space between the notes.” Thanks for sharing your musical observations, Brother D. Hope you and Nancy got to church on time. T and I just finished up having breakfast with her folks. —Mister DJ.

  2. Pondering in silence reminds me of why rests are written into music.🎵 Without them, it
wouldn’t have the space to “breathe” For a great example of this, listen to Quincy Jones’ theme song from the TV show “Sanford and Son.” Like lots of Jazz music, the rests are as important as the notes.
I only add this because I know you are a music lover and top DJ.

  5. I love pondering in silence when you have a Mr. Rice on your shoulder to assist you! And I love when God gives us sprinkles of grace! Sprinkles are good on anything!
