The Legacies of Our Fathers

My Dad would have turned 90 today. As I spend the day thinking about him, his life, and impact and influence on mine, lots of thoughts and emotions flood my mind.

What thoughts fill your mind when you think about your father? How does that all compare to your thoughts about our Heavenly Father?

Truthfully, when I think about my relationship with my earthly father, I am conflicted. Is this true for you?

Reflecting on the character and love of our Heavenly Father can be deeply comforting and inspiring.

Here are some verses that speak about our good, good father:

  1. Matthew 6:9: “This is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, may your name be revered as holy.”
  2. Psalm 103:13: “Just as a father is kind to his children, so the Lord is kind to those who honor him.”
  3. James 1:17: “Every good and perfect gift comes from above, from the Father of the heavenly lights, who doesn’t change like shifting shadows.”
  4. Romans 8:15: “For you didn’t receive a spirit of slavery to lead you back again into fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!'”
  5. 1 John 3:1: “See what incredible love the Father has given to us so that we can be called children of God—and that’s what we really are!”

Scripture reminds us of our Heavenly Father’s love, kindness, and the blessings He provides. God, our Father, is a stable presence and an affectionate parent who generously gives us our identity as His children.

When I think about my relationship with my Heavenly Father, I am not conflicted. I know that I am loved and that I am enough.

May these truths bring you peace and encouragement. Rejoice in the Lord always! He is working for our good.

Thanks for reading, my friend. Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
