Turn on the news and you will quickly be bombarded with a wave of global uncertainty washing over the world.
Dial it down and focus inward and you, like me, may find yourself facing a season of personal uncertainty.
Earlier this year, I received a diagnosis that said I suffered from complex bereavement and a post-traumatic stress disorder. This led to my going on leave and eventually, permanently leaving my ministry role because it was determined that continuing on in my position was not good for my long term health and wellbeing. Naturally, this is a season rifled with uncertainty.
Facing uncertainty is difficult and challenging. Thankfully, God, through the Book of Proverbs offers wisdom to guide and comfort us.
The Book of Proverbs, as I observed in a prior post, is “filled with wisdom and guidance for living a life that is pleasing to God and beneficial to others.”

Here are twelve proverbs that can help you navigate uncertain times:
- “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.”
(Proverbs 3:5-6 HCSB) - “The plans of the diligent certainly lead to profit, but anyone who is reckless certainly becomes poor.”
(Proverbs 21:5 HCSB) - “Listen to counsel and receive instruction so that you may be wise later in life.”
(Proverbs 19:20 HCSB) - “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them.”
(Proverbs 11:3 HCSB) - “Don’t boast about tomorrow, for you don’t know what a day might bring.”
(Proverbs 27:1 HCSB) - “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.”
(Proverbs 16:9 HCSB) - “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.”
(Proverbs 12:25 HCSB) - “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.”
(Proverbs 17:22 HCSB) - “Without guidance, people fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance.”
(Proverbs 11:14 HCSB) - “The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.”
(Proverbs 18:10 HCSB) - “A fool’s way is right in his own eyes, but whoever listens to counsel is wise.”
(Proverbs 12:15 HCSB) - “Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.”
(Proverbs 16:18 HCSB)
I pray that these timeless words offer you strength and peace as you—like me—navigate the uncertainties of life. May we trust in the Lord and seek His wisdom in all our ways.

Brother, it makes me sad, too. And my exit was less than spectacular. But, I am also grateful to be able to take the time. I’m super thankful that Terri is in my corner. I’m not sure how I would do it without her. And yes, its something talked about a lot, but rarely acted upon. And yes, it has been and continues to be scary at times. I appreciate your encouraging words, thoughts, and prayers. Shalom, shalom.
