What’s the most fun way to exercise?
For me, it’s walking. Simple. Accessible. And right now, it’s my favorite way to move my body and clear my mind.
Granted, when I first started on my walking journey the last week of February as part of my plan for reclaiming my physical health, it was very laborious. The first couple of weeks felt like I was attempting to climb the Matterhorn. Then, 4-6 weeks into the journey, I began to notice a little difference. This week, I’m averaging about 7 miles a day.
What’s the most fun way to exercise?
Walking isn’t just good physically. It’s proving to be benecial spiritually as well. There’s something sacred about a good walk—especially when it becomes more than just physical movement. Walking offers a way to reflect, pray, listen, and observe the world around me. With every step, I feel more grounded. More present. More in tune with God. And that’s a beautiful thing.
Sometimes I walk in silence, other times with worship music in my ears or scripture echoing in my thoughts.
And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8 NIV
Walking is more than fun—it’s formational. It helps me tend to my health, both physical and spiritual.
So yes, walking is exercise.
But it’s also worship.
And for me, that makes it the most joyful kind.

Well done Rainer! I join my wife for three mall walks each week. I add in about three more days with outdoor walks (when weather is inclement, my indoor bike is always ready). Being outside with nature’s grace offers a cleansing peace.
