During my wellness journey, Terri and I have focused on the quality of our sleep. Turns out, sleep impacts our stress levels and our fight or flight response mechanism. And I was definitely stuck in a fight or flight mode at the start of 2025. This led me to spend time studying about courage and investigating how I could overcome my post traumatic stress disorder and regain my confidence and mental serenity.

As I scoured my Bible, I confirmed that courage is a theme resonating all throughout the Scriptures, encouraging believers to stand firm in our faith and face challenges with strength.
We find one of the most notable verses on this subject in Joshua 1:9, where the Lord tells His servant: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Courage is not just a personal trait; it is deeply connected to the presence of God. When we trust in His support and guidance, we can confront our fears and uncertainties.
Proverbs 28:1 states, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
This verse contrasts the fear of the wicked with the confidence of the righteous, showing us that true courage is rooted in living a just and upright life.
Yes, my friend, we live in times of grave uncertainty. But God remains faithful and trustworthy.

Here are 10 Bible verses on courage, including the two I mentioned above, offering encouragement and strength for times of fear, doubt, or uncertainty:
1. Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
2. Deuteronomy 31:6 (ESV)
Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.
3. Psalm 27:1 (NIV)
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
4. Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
5. 1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV)
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
6. 2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
7. Psalm 31:24 (NIV)
Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
8. Proverbs 28:1 (NKJV)
The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
9. John 16:33 (NIV)
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
10. Romans 8:31 (NIV)
If God is for us, who can be against us?
I pray these words of Scripture inspire you to live boldly, knowing that God is with you every step of the way. When it comes to life, we can’t be cowards. We must muster the courage to try new things and be brave in the face of uncertainty. Know you are loved and that you matter. You make a difference in people’s lives. And while we can’t change the past, we can determine our future. Trust in God. He is faithful.

Through our faith and trust in the Lord we find the courage to face life’s most daunting challenges.
Until my next post…

That a rich picture, Jodi, one I am sure many of us can relate to as well. My mom used to make me hold out my hand to see if my pinky was shaking. If it was, I was lying. Have a great day!

“The wicked flee … “ I remember when I was younger, and my mom would “catch me in – what she believed to be – a lie” … it was so odd to her (and also to me, later in life) that one of my “tells” – we all have them – is I would DEFEND myself to the death – if I was telling the truth. If I was lying 🤥, I would damn near pick out my own switch and corner to stand in … automatically.
This resonates with me deeply – thank you for honoring the word – and bringing it “to life” in such a powerful way!

All great verses and Romans 8:31 is one of my favorites. I use it when I practice my deep breathing. Breath in: If God is for me, breath out: who can be against me? It gives me focus and a good mental reset if I venture into a spiral of negative thinking!
