It’s an interesting question, I think.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues embedding itself into every fabric of our society. The lines between what is real and artificial is growing increasingly blurry. A man recently proposed to his AI ChatBot.
How will the prevalence of AI impact the work of the Gospel?
In modern times, technology is a tool that helps us share the Gospel. It easily translates the Bible into different languages, reaches audiences through social media, and creates resources that deepen people’s understanding of Scripture. However, we must always remember that the core message of the Gospel remains rooted in personal relationships, love, and the work of the Holy Spirit. We don’t save souls. Jesus does.

That said, the prevalence of AI can both challenge and amplify the work of the Gospel, depending on how we use it.
Opportunities to Amplify the Gospel
1. Wider Reach and Accessibility
As I mentioned earlier, AI can translate the Gospel into countless languages in real-time, breaking down barriers of literacy and language.
Both chatbots and apps can provide 24/7 spiritual support, devotionals, and biblical counseling to seekers around the world.
2. Discipleship and Education
Used properly, AI tools help us grow in our faith through offering personalized study plans, theological insights, and teaching based on where a person is in their journey.
3. Evangelism in Digital Spaces
AI can also be used to meet people where they are: online. Algorithms are able to tailor content that draws people into deeper spiritual conversations by leveraging social media, video, blogs, and, even games.
4. Human Empowerment
By freeing up time by automating administrative or repetitive tasks, ministry leaders can focus on people and building relationships.

Challenges and Concerns
1. Disembodied Faith
Christianity is rooted in relationships and community. Overreliance on AI could increase a detached spiritual experience.
2. Truth vs. Algorithm
AI systems are trained on vast data, including some information that is contradictory or harmful. Used carelessly, AI could further theological error and dilute the Gospel through inaccurate messaging.
3. Dehumanization Risk
If ministry turns solely into content delivery or metrics management, the essence of the Gospel is lost. The Christian faith centers on compassion, presence, and testimony. AI will not replace the genuineness of human interaction.
4. Discernment Challenges
Because AI mimics human voices, people may be more easily misled by “spiritual” messages not sourced from the Spirit of God. As the influence of AI grows, spiritual discernment becomes even more crucial in distinguishing divine truth from worldly noise.

Listen, my friend, the Gospel is not threatened by new tool. Jesus reminds us, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)
However, we must steward AI well:
- Use it to proclaim, not replace.
- Let it support, not supplant.
- Keep the focus on incarnational ministry by being Christ to others, never delegating that to machines.
As believers, our job is the same as always: to proclaim Christ crucified and risen, love God and our neighbors, and make disciples.
AI is a tool.
Who we point to remains unchanged.
He told them, “You don’t get to know the time. Timing is the Father’s business. What you’ll get is the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.”
Acts 1:8 The Message

Thank you, Alan. Terri and I are grateful for your prayers and blessings. The Lord is kind. Yes, AI is no substitute for human beings interacting with one another but it can be a powerful tool in our arsenal. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Thank you for sharing this post on the subject of AI engagement Rainer; it is a subject we certainly need to be more aware of in recent days. I believe AI can be useful as a reference to the Gospel online, but it certainly can’t function at the personal level of spirituality required to lead a person in the things of God.
God bless you and Terri today brother 🙏
