Keep Your Eyes on Jesus

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”
Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)

During life’s most difficult moments, like the ones people are experiencing in the Texas Hill Country and along the Guadalupe River, it’s easy to let our focus drift to the chaos surrounding us. The devastation, agony, pain, loss, disappointment, and fear readily steal our attention. As the waves grow taller, and the winds howl louder, Jesus suddenly seems far away.

But He’s not.

Hebrews 12:2 urges us to keep our eyes on Jesus—not just glance at Him, but fix our eyes on Him. Christ is our steady center when everything else is spinning out of control. Jesus is the author of our story and the ONE who promises to finish what HE started.

When Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water, he did what no one else dared to do. His faith held while his eyes were locked on Jesus. But the moment he looked at the storm, he began to sink. Even then, Jesus reached out and caught him.

We’re no different. When trouble comes, and it will, we can either drown in fear or fix our eyes on the ONE who walks on water.

Jesus never promised a life without storms; He promised to be with us in them. That’s a game-changer.

Reflection Questions:

  • What storm are you facing today?
  • Where is your focus—on the problem, or on Jesus?
  • What would it look like to fix your eyes on Him right now?

Prayer:
Gracious Lord, when life gets heavy and the waves grow high, help me to lift my eyes to You. Remind me that You are with me, even in the storm. You are beside me. Anchor my heart in Your presence. Strengthen my faith, and help me walk toward You, one step at a time. In the powerful, precious name of Jesus, Amen.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
