“Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.”
Hebrews 10:35 ESV
If you are anything like me, you’ve likely found yourself emotionally overwhelmed in light of the horrific and unfathomable tragedy that occurred in the Texas Hill Country this past 4th of July weekend.
In moments of unfathomable tragedy, it is natural for us to feel overwhelmed and seek comfort. As we grapple to understand, you and I can remain confident that Jesus sees us and hears us. We are neither forgotten nor forsaken, even when what’s happening around us is confusing.

Scripture offers many verses that provide assurance and hope during difficult times, like the ones we are seeing unfold on our screens down in the Texas Hill Country.
One such scripture is found in Psalm 34:18, which states, “The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” This verse reminds us that even in our darkest hours, God is present with us, offering comfort and salvation. We can be confident God is there with us in the storm.
The Apostle Paul, writing in Romans reminds us that we find hope in the midst of suffering: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Although you and I may not always understand the reasons behind our pain, the Apostle Paul reassures us that God can bring about good from even the most challenging circumstances.
As believers, it is also important to remember the promise found in Revelation 21:4. Here the Apostle John declares, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” We can look forward to a time when God will restore all things and bring healing to our sorrow.
Friend, during these times, it can be comforting to seek prayer as well as community support. May we continue to trust in the Lord and lean on His promises, knowing that He walks with us through every trial. How beautiful is that?
