Happy Wednesday! Welcome to another edition of Wednesday Wisdom.
Today, I am turning our attention to life as a Christian blogger. As a Christian blogger, it is essential to seek wisdom that aligns with Biblical teachings. It’s imperative, when we talk about our faith that we put some Bible on it! Otherwise, we risk wandering off course and leading people astray.
In today’s post, we will explore some key principles that help us create our posts.
Seek God’s Guidance
Before starting, seek wisdom from God. This is true anywhere along our writing journey. When I choose to write something, I usually have to ask:
1. “Does this glorify God?”
2. “Does this edify, educate, or enlighten my readers?
3. “How does this encourage readers struggling with their faith?”
4. “Am I being salt and/or light by sharing this post?”
5. “Am I being consistent with what I’ve written in the past?”
James 1:5 ESV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
God’s wisdom is available to us in all things, including our writing. We simply need to be willing to ask for it. As I create new content, be it writing or art, I try to pray God’s guidance and inspiration as I create. I want to invite the Lord into the room. I encourage you to do the same if you consider yourself to be a Christian blogger (or artist for that matter).
Be Honest and Authentic
Share your genuine experiences and thoughts, honesty reflecting your relationship with God. Spiritual growth isn’t always smooth sailing. There are up’s and downs, hills and valleys, curves and corners. Nothing about following Jesus is easy. Be truthful. Truthfulness matters in the Kingdom of God.
Proverbs 12:22 ESV
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.
Authenticity resonates with readers. It matters.
Encourage and Inspire
I try to use the platform the Lord has provided me to uplift others. I want to encourage readers, especially through the hard times. Oftentimes, I invite readers in to my life unvarnished and unfiltered because I believe it offers them a dose of encouragement to know we can keep the faith amid life’s struggles. I aim to provide words that are honest, inspiring, and helpful in building up faith.
Ephesians 4:29 NLT
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Put Some Bible On It!
As a Christian blogger, it is imperative to use the tools God gave us, especially His Word. We need to put some Bible on it! That means incorporating biblical truths in our writing. To do that, we must know our Bible. Scripture should guide and inform our posts. Otherwise, what are we doing!?!
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Be Humble and Open
Listen, to live is to be criticized. To create, even moreso. It’s important, if at times impossible, to remain open to feedback and grow from it. We should show humility in our writing and make every effort to engage with others honestly and genuinely.
Philippians 2:3 NIV
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,
Seek to Build Community
Blogging is about community. It’s up to us to foster connections with our readers and fellow bloggers, including those who see the world differently than we do. I’ve found that community only enhances my writing journey.
Hebrews 10:22-25 The Message
So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.
Friend, and fellow blogger, my encouragement to you is to embrace your journey with dedication and a heart for God, so that your blogging becomes a meaningful ministry. My hope for you is that you thrive and flourish in all that you think, say, and do.
