Seeking God’s Will for Your Career

As I recuperate from what was a difficult season, I’ve naturally thought about the future and what the Lord may lead me to do next. As an artist and advocate, I wonder if God will want me to continue on that path. As a creative thought leader with a heart for people and purpose, I wonder what, if anything, the Lord may have in store for me in that arena.

For years, I’ve helped both people and organizations see challenges differently, uncover new possibilities, and turn ideas into reality. Over multiple decades, I’ve been blessed to build up an extensive background in foodservice, nonprofit operations, ministry, and community advocacy.I believe that I blend strategic insight with creative vision to spark lasting change.

As a visual artist and writer, I lean toward using stories, imagery, and experiences to inspire reflection and action, inviting people to see others not as problems to fix, but as lives to be valued.

And here I am, wondering about the future and what God holds in His hands for it.

Discerning God’s will for the future, especially when it comes to our career and work, is an important aspect of our walk with Him. The Bible does offer insight and principles that can guide us on this journey of discovery. So, if you’re like me, and trying to figure out God’s will for your life, let’s put some Bible on it.

Work itself is a big part of God’s plan. Given that knowledge, we should view our work as an offering to Him, as a reflection of our dedication to God in every area of our life.

Colossians‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Experience has taught me that when I submit my plans (and actions) to God, He will be there to lead me to His desired path. Scripture backs that up.

Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Engaging with wise and godly mentors or friends also provides invaluable insights as I explore potential paths.

Proverbs‬ ‭15‬:‭22‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

Obviously, prayer is crucial in our discerning God’s will as we our consider next steps and contemplate a path forward. We can bring our career aspirations and choices before God in prayer, and trust that the Lord will guide us. It’s important that we evaluate our gifts and passions as we move forward because they are good indicators of where God may be leading us. Each of us are tooled with unique strengths that help us serve effectively.

Above all, it’s important that we approach our decision-making process with patience, prayer, and openness to the Holy Spirit’s leading, and trust that God will unveil His plans for our work life in His time.

Hopefully, reading this helps you as much as it helps me writing it.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
