Fitness Friday | When the World Runs, Be Still

Friend, welcome to my blog, The Devotional Guy™. Today, we are unearthing our Fitness Friday theme by focusing on slowing down in a world full of hurry.

We live in a time when the world races by, breathless, restless, always chasing the next thing, rarely stopping to notice the beauty in the now. But the Holy Spirit whispers:

“Be still. Know that I am God.”

I’ve learned that stillness is not the same as idleness. Being still reflects the quiet strength of trust. It exemplifies the courage it takes to rest when the world says run, to wait when the world screams hurry.

I’ve discovered in this truth in the earliest hours of the day, before the sky blushes with light, when the streets are still quiet and the air remains thick with peace. It’s in those moments, that I am not rushing to produce or perform.

I am simply present.

Sitting with my coffee, usually with Rice (one of our cats) in my lap, quietly
listening for God’s voice. It’s as if I’m letting my thoughts settle like silt in clear water.

In stillness, our faith grows deep.

The roots of confidence and conviction sink into He who is Living Water,
as we draw strength not from busyness
but from connecting to the Bread of Life.

Patience becomes a prayer.
Trust becomes an act of worship.
And the heart learns that God’s timing
is never rushed, never late; but always perfect, always on time.

So, my friend, pause.

Let the noise fade.
Feel the weight of your worries lift
as you place them in God’s hands.
The world may keep spinning,
but your soul can be steady,
anchored in the One who holds all things.

My Prayer
Lord, teach me the holy art of waiting.
Quiet my heart when the world shouts for my attention.
Help me trust Your pace,
and find my strength not in the speed of life,
but in the stillness of Your presence.

In Jesus’ Name.

Amen.

Friend, maybe your life feels like it’s moving at full speed right now with deadlines stacking, obligations multiplying, people pulling at you from every direction. Trust me. I get it. It’s hard to be proactive when everything around you is burning with the flames of urgency. But here’s the truth: you don’t have to match the pace of the world to walk in the peace of God. Even five minutes of stillness today (away from screens, away from noise) can serve as a holy act of trust. Start there. Let God meet you in the quiet, and you may discover that the stillness you seek has been looking for you all along.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.

  1. Thanks, David. I’m glad it connected with you. You’re right, it’s not healthy. Early on, during this particular healing and recovery journey, both Terri and my therapist noticed how I kept piling commitments onto my calendar when I was trying to focus simply on being. I constantly caught myself doing. It took weeks to ratchet down and still requires intentionality daily. After years of being ON ALERT, waiting for the other shoe to drop, my acute stress response had a difficult time shutting down. “No Margins” living not only isn’t sustainable and unhealthy, it’s not Biblical. Thank you for reading and engaging, my friend. Hope y’all have a great weekend!

  3. This is great advice, brother. So many of us have no “margins” in our day or life -every millimeter of our proverbial paper is covered. This is not healthy: spiritually, emotionally, or physically.
