New Year’s is a day that we vow to do certain things anew, or at least different, than the previous year. For many of us—myself included—that includes a commitment to read and study God’s Word daily. Often, we decide that we are going to read through the whole Bible in one year.
We start out great, and then somewhere around Leviticus and Numbers, we check out. The more determined ones among us may last until First and Second Chronicles.
Yes, this has happened to me too, albeit maybe for different reasons than yours. Then again, maybe not.

And here we are, butting up against September, and there are only FOUR months left in the year. Our vow to dig into God’s Word has waned into a faded commitment, like a vapor in the wind.
Well—here’s some good news.
There’s STILL TIME to get into God’s Word.
Here’s a simple plan to get you started:
The Devotional Guy™ Bible Reading Starter Plan
- Luke 1
- Luke 2
- Mark 1
- Mark 9
- Matthew 5
- Matthew 6
- Luke 15
- John3
- John 14
- John 17
- Matthew 26
- Matthew 27
- John 20
- Luke 24
This two week dive into the Gospels is just the recipe to get your Bible reading cooking again. I invite you to show yourself some grace and get started. You can read one passage a day or even one passage a week, if you’re a slow chewer. Whatever works for you. Just stick to the commitment you make.
Psalm 1:1-3 NIV
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.
