Wednesday Wisdom | Navigating the Uncertainty of Change

Hooray! I can feel the breeze ushering in the much anticipated cold front sitting on Mom’s porch sipping coffee. It’s only August, before Labor Day, but it’s an indication that the long, hot Summer season is drawing to an end.

It’s been nearly six months since I officially left work to focus on healing and recovery from my post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complicated bereavement. In that time, I’ve navigated two seasons—Spring and Summer. Autumn (Fall) is approaching and we’ve got about four months left in the year. 2025 is two-thirds over!

Of course, we all know by now that change is a natural part of life, not just the change of season. It’s a lesson we learn early and often throughout our life. Nothing remains the same.

There are three constants in life: Change, Choice and Principles.

Stephen Covey

Fortunately for us, the Bible offers us wisdom on how we can navigate change with faith and trust.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 ESV

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

The wisdom of Solomon reminds us that change is an essential part of life and that each phase of our lives has its purpose. The Bible teaches us that by embracing change we grow and find new opportunities.

In His word, the Lord encourages us to trust in God during times of transition.

When faced with change, we are wise to lean into prayer and seek the Lord’s guidance. As seasoned believers, we know from experience that we can trust the Lord. This is not our first rodeo. It’s certainly not His.

The Lord remains with us through every season, providing strength and wisdom to face whatever comes our way. We need to remember that the Lord is unchanging. We can find comfort in His constancy amidst our changing circumstances.

Proverbs 3:5-8 ESV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

I know personally that change can be a frightening experience. There are things we control and others we simply don’t have any say in. In those moments of uncertainty it is imperative that we lean on the Lord, our God, for assistance. He gave us His Holy Spirit to help us for such times as these.

UPDATE: Mom’s surgery on her nose went very smoothly. The doctor even prayed with her beforehand.

Until my next post…
