Wednesday Wisdom | Wisdom for Blogging

I began blogging in 2008, shortly after rededicating my life to Christ in 2007. I launched The Devotional Guy™ in 2013. I started blogging as a way to share Jesus with the masses. Since those early days, I’ve learned blogging isn’t as much about words as much as it’s about people. Blogging involves human connection, encouragement, and sharing a part of the adventure together.

If you’re a writer, creator, or even just curious about starting a blog, I decided to share a few nuggets of wisdom I’ve discovered along the way.

Write for people, not for algorithms.
It’s easy to get caught up in search rankings, likes, comments, and all the rest, but in the end, hearts matter more than clicks, especially as a Christian blogger. A post that speaks life into someone’s soul will outlast any temporary trend.

Consistency builds trust.
Whether it’s weekly or monthly, show up faithfully. Be present. Be consistent. Your readers return to your blog to hear your voice and to sense your presence.

Your voice is your gift.
God gave you a story no one else can tell. It’s solely yours. But, don’t bury it under the weight of comparison. Speak from your own life, and watch how it resonates.

Think in seasons, not sprints.
Some seasons overflow with inspiration. You can’t write down ideas fast enough. Others feel like wilderness. You couldn’t find an idea if they were giving it away at Wally World. Both are part of the process. Show yourself grace to walk with God through each season, good or bad.

Serve before you sell.
The best blogs offer value before they ever ask for anything. Encourage someone today. Establish who you are. The fruit will come in time. I had more views, visitors, likes, and comments last month than I did in any of the first years three of this blog’s existence.

Listen as much as you write.
Pay attention to comments, questions, and even silence. God often speaks through your readers, guiding what comes next. Don’t be discouraged by the silence or the lack of immediate response.

Protect your why.
Numbers and metrics are distractions. Remember why you began: to share hope, to point to Christ, to remind others they are not alone.

Blogging, like faith, is a long journey of obedience. It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being faithful. Press on.

Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for giving us stories to tell and words to share. Help us to use our voices wisely, not for recognition, but to serve and to love well. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
