My Monday Cup | It’s All About Jesus

As Believers, we know that Jesus is central to our Christian faith, and His life and teachings continue to provide us with guidance and hope, even in this contentious age. Jesus’ words and actions invite us to love God with our everythingness and encourage us to love one another.

John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Scripture teaches us that Jesus plays a unique role in providing access to God and the importance of following Him. Christ’s example of love, humility, and sacrifice is a model for all of us.

Rediscovering the Heart of the Gospel

In a world filled with daunting violence vitriolic disputes, and clearly differing ideologies, it’s easy for us to lose sight of the central message of Christianity. Yet, as the late Charlie Kirk so often and eloquently pointed out, at the core of our Christian faith stands a simple but profound truth: It’s all about Jesus.

Jesus stands, front and center, at the heart of the Gospel. He left Heaven to live among us so we could know Him. After living a perfect, sinless life, Jesus was arrested, beaten, and nailed to a cross on a hill called Calvary. It’s on that cross that through His own physical death, Jesus defeated death. Scripture teaches us that on the third day, Christ rose back to life from His earthly grave paving the path for us to be restored in right relationship with God. His life, death, burial, and resurrection bridge the chasm that once separated us from the Lord.

The Centrality of Christ

The Apostle Paul encapsulated this focus in his letter to the Corinthians:

1 Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV

For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.‬

The New International Version uses the word resolve to describe Paul’s unwavering commitment to the foundational role of Jesus in our Christian faith. Every aspect of our beliefs, practices, and hope finds its origin and fulfillment in Christ, and Christ alone.

I love that word: resolve. Don’t you? It’s such a strong and powerful word.

Jesus: The Way, The Truth, The Life

When Jesus declared that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life in the Gospel of John, He is making it clear that He is not merely a guide but the very embodiment of truth and the means to eternal life. Through His life, death, and resurrection, He restores humanity with God.

Living with Jesus at the Center

Embracing the truth that “It’s all about Jesus” transforms our daily lives. It has to. As Believers we can’t say “It’s all about Jesus” without centering our thoughts, words, and deeds around Him. Our declaration infuses our decisions and our relationships. Our Christ-centered living should reflect our commitment to His teachings and our desire to emulate His love and grace.

John the Baptist exemplified this focus when he declared:

John 3.30 ESV

He must increase, but I must decrease.

John the Baptist’s humility and devotion that pointed others not to himself, but to Jesus, still serve as a good model for us to follow today.

As I’ve said before: we are either pointing people to Jesus or pushing them away.

Sharing the Message of Jesus

As Bible-believing followers of Jesus, we know that the essence of the Gospel isn’t about rituals or traditions but about Jesus Christ.

As followers of Christ, our mission, having accepted it, is to share the life-giving message of what Jesus taught and did with others, inviting them to join us in a transformative relationship with God.

My Final Thoughts

Last week, I was horrified and hurt by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. While I did not know him, or even follow him regularly, I knew who he was and I respected how openly he declared his love for Jesus. He and I probably didn’t agree on everything. Neither do you and I. But we live in a country that welcomes debate about the diversity of ideas; or at least we did. The freedom to openly discuss and disagree with one another is one of the core foundational principles of our nation.

In every season and circumstance, including this one, God’s steadfast truth remains: It’s all about Jesus. Christ is the foundation of our faith, the model for our lives, and the message we are called to proclaim. By keeping our focus on Him, we align ourselves with the heart of the gospel and fulfill our purpose as His disciples.

Ultimately, following Jesus brings a sense of purpose, direction, and the assurance of eternal life. Charlie Kirk knew this.

Bullets shouldn’t silence public discourse. They certainly must not silence the Gospel. We can’t let them.

In the days to come, let us continually remind ourselves and others that, indeed, it’s all about Jesus.

Until my next post…

Be salty, stay lit.
