We live in an age of noise, conflict, and unrest. 24-hour newsfeeds shout at us incessantly, our neighbors are on edge, and the weight of uncertainty makes even the most grounded heart feel unsettled. In challenging times like ours, how do we live out love, kindness, and gentleness in our daily lives?
The truth is, it doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a choice we make that demands choosing a way of being that must be cultivated every day.
It’s a conscience decision we make to live our lives differently.

Anchoring Ourselves in Peace
We can’t give what we don’t have. FACTS. Frantic hearts produce sharp words. To be a refuge for others, our souls need to be at rest. We can find stillness in prayer, Scripture, and quiet reflection. When we anchor ourselves in God’s peace, we are able to carry His peace into the storm.
Responding with Gentleness
In tumultuous times, people can react with fear and anger. Gentleness can disrupt that cycle. A soft answer, a calm spirit, and a patient pause shift the atmosphere way more than a heated argument ever will.
Being Present
Sometimes the greatest gift we can give is our presence. Look people in the eye. Listen deeply. Put away distractions. In a divided and distracted world, true and undivided attention communicates love.
Practicing Kindness in Small Ways
We are not able to solve every crisis, but we can brighten anyone’s day with a kind word, a smile, or a note of encouragement. These simple acts are not small things in dark times. They are meaningful beams of light that remind others they are not alone.
Guarding Our Heart with Boundaries
Being loving does not mean being without limits. Protecting our own peace allows us to show up well for others. Sometimes love looks like stepping back and letting God do what only He can do. Always let God be God.
Keeping the Long View
Tumultuous times are temporary. God’s steadfast love endures forever. When we remember this truth, we are less likely to be swept up by fear and more likely to live with steady grace. That’s a good thing. Again, trust God to be God.

A Prayer for Tumultuous Times
O Lord, help me be an instrument of Your peace.
When the world is loud, let me be still.
When hearts are heavy, let me be gentle.
When hope feels distant, let me reflect Your love.
Teach me to walk in kindness and carry Your light,
so that even in tumultuous times, people may see You in me.
In Jesus’ Name.
Amen.

Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.
