10 Bible Verses If You’re Considering Changing Jobs

You are not your job.

You ARE enough.

God doesn’t love you more or less based on what you do to earn a living.

Sometimes, no matter how much we try and resist it, we find ourselves considering changing jobs. It happens to the best of us. The shine has worn off that role we were once super-excited about getting. We’ve had the chance to look behind the curtain and check under the hood and we realize what we thought was a dream job isn’t all that after all.

As Christians, when we are considering changing jobs, God’s Word should be our go to for wisdom and direction. Simply put: it’s wise to meditate on Scriptures that provide guidance, encouragement, and insight into God’s will for us.

Like me, you may have grown up hearing the concept that you find a job and you keep it and learned that people spend their entire work career at one company. In reality, that’s more myth and legend than it is true.

You may have also heard that nowadays it’s common place to change jobs often. Personally, I don’t think that this a recipe for success either.

However, that is simply my opinion.

You are not what you do.

At the end of the day, you have to figure out what works for you and what doesn’t.

Changing jobs doesn’t mean you’re abandoning your faith—especially if you’re in ministry. God’s calling on your life doesn’t get canceled. Where you live it out, however, may change. And that’s OKAY.

Here are ten verses from the Bible to consider as you pray through changing jobs:

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Psalm 37:4 ESV

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Colossians 3:23-24 NIV

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Ephesians 2:10 NIV

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.

Isaiah 41:10 NIV

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Proverbs 16:3 ESV

Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Psalm 32:8 NIV

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Philippians 4:13 NIV

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

As you meditate on these verses, I encourage you to seek the Lord’s guidance in prayer and listen for His direction. May the Lord provide you with clarity and peace as you navigate making a job change.
