Waiting in a Culture Addicted to Speed

We live in a world trained to eliminate waiting. We demand fast downloads, instant responses, and same-day delivery. Waiting, schmaiting.

In our present age, waiting feels like failure, or worse, irrelevance.

But Scripture consistently calls God’s people to focus on slow faith. Waiting teaches discernment, dependence, and depth. It exposes our impatience and re-centers our trust.

Christian waiting is an act of resistance. It refuses to rush God. It chooses silence over noise and presence over productivity. It values being here over in our phone.

In our loud world, waiting is for losers. In God’s eyes, waiting is worship.

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10 ESV

Waiting is at the heart of Advent. For many of us, the world is a familiar and often weary place. Advent invites us to discover that God meets us in the waiting, forming hope where we least expect it. Waiting teaches us patience, deepens our trust, and prepares our hearts to receive Christ anew. Isn’t Jesus worth the wait?
