Friends and first-timers, to kick off my Saturday in the Word feature on The Devotional Guy™ blog for 2026, I thought we’d work through my Simple Bible Reading Plan as a way to get into the Word together.
The beauty of the Simple Bible Reading Plan is that it gives us an overview of the entire Bible once it’s completed.
We start in the New Testament, focused on the ministry of Jesus before taking a journey through the beginnings of the Church after Christ’s crucifixion, death and resurrection. We finish off with an overview of the Old Testament to see how God has been at work all around us from the very start.
Another key of this Bible reading plan is that you can go at a pace that suits you. You can actually complete the whole plan in about six weeks by working through one chapter a day.
For our time together, we will work through one chapter per week. I believe that this pace is manageable for even the most hectic schedule and it allows for real depth and thorough study.

Your assignment?
Read Luke 1. Try and read it at least 3 times. Meditate on it. Chew on it. Study it.
I will be using the English Standard Version (ESV) as my translation. You’re welcome to use whatever translation of choice you prefer. There will be times when I compare different translations.
Let me know if you’re going to join me on this walk through the ministry of Jesus these next 14 weeks by posting a comment. You’re also welcome to riff off my post and share thoughts of your own in response to mine. If you do, use #SimpleBiblePlan2026.
Thanks in advance!

Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.

Awesome, Willie. I’m praying for you. This should be in bite size pieces that allow us to eat the whole elephant over time. I just want to encourage people to read their Bibles.
