Why Some Posts Take a Year—or Two—to Hit

It’s a strange thing about the internet: sometimes you pour your heart into a post, hit “publish,” and…

nothing.

Crickets. No likes, no shares, no comments. You wonder if anyone even read it. Then, months and even years later, suddenly your forlorn post starts to get traction. People are engaging with it, sharing it on their blog, and reviving what you long ago left for dead. Finally, it feels like your words have found their audience.

If you’re like me, you’ve wondered why this happens.

Here are a few reasons:

1. Timing is everything.
   Sometimes a post just isn’t relevant when it first goes live. No matter how much you put into to it. Trends, cultural conversations, or even personal experiences change over time. A post about a “new” mindset or approach might only resonate when the world (or your audience) is ready for it.
2. Search engines take their time.
   Contrary to what you may believe, SEO isn’t instant. Google and other search engines take time to index your content, assess its value, and start sending traffic. That’s why a well-written, evergreen post might sit quietly for months before it starts appearing in search results.
3. Content needs to mature.
   The truth is, some ideas need time to marinate. Your readers may not always understand or appreciate your perspective. They just don’t get it. As your audience grows and as you continue writing, earlier posts can gain relevance and unexpectedly find the right eyes.
4. Algorithms play favorites later.
   Social media algorithms aren’t always fair or immediate. Every day, tons of content gets created and published. Sometimes a post gets buried at first, only to be picked up months later due to renewed interest, comments, or even a shift in the algorithm itself.
5. Your network grows over time.
   Every day you connect with more people who share your interests. A post that didn’t resonate a year ago might now reach someone who shares it widely, creating a ripple effect.

The takeaway? Don’t delete or despair over posts that seem ignored at first. The right people, at the right time, might just be waiting for it. Some posts are like seed that take a while to sprout, but when they do, they can grow faster than you imagined.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.
