A #Lent26 Reflection
The other day, while I was waiting on my friend, Nate (who blogs at Time for Providence) to join me for coffee, I was catching up on my SoulCare Lenten Reading Plan.
I quickly found myself meditating on the words of the Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians.
6 So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are not at home with the Lord. 7 For we live by believing and not by seeing. 8 Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.
2 Corinthians 5:6-8 NLT
Writing from a place of suffering, the Paul reminds us that our confidence in Christ is not based on what we see but on who we trust.
We live in physical bodies that experience weakness, suffering, and limitation and that can make heaven feel distant.
Paul declares something powerful:
We live by believing and not by seeing.
Yes. We live by faith, not by sight. Faith means trusting God’s promises even when circumstances feel uncertain or the present situation seems dim. Believing means choosing eternal perspective over temporary pressure.
Paul even expresses a holy longing. He deeply desires to be fully with the Lord. However, he stays engaged in mission because his life still has purpose here on Earth.
Friend, your current struggles are temporary. Your identity in Christ is secure. Your confidence comes from eternity not the temporary space you find yourself in today.
Your goal is to please the Lord. That’s your purpose.
Reflection Questions
1. Where are you tempted to live by sight instead of faith?
2. How would your decisions change if eternity shaped your perspective?

Let confidence in Christ anchor your heart today.
Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.
