Saturday in the Word | The Way, The Truth, and the Life

A Simple Bible Reading Plan

Happy Saturday! Welcome to this week’s installment of Saturday in the Word on this last day of February 2026. I want to thank you for making your way to my blog as we continue exploring the most foundational passages of the Bible. 

John 14 is a tender chapter that feels like a room full of anxious hearts. Jesus knows the Cross is coming. Although the disciples don’t fully understand, they can feel the shift. Something is ending. Uncertainty fills the air.

Jesus speaks into that tension.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.”

John 14:1, NLT

Troubled Hearts

The word “troubled” carries the sense of being shaken, stirred up, unsettled.

How many of us live there?

You can love God and still feel anxious.
You can walk closely with Jesus and still feel unsure of what’s next.
You can be faithful and still feel the ground moving beneath your feet.

Jesus does not rebuke our troubled hearts. He comforts us just as He comforted the disciples.

He invites us to trust.

Not “figure it out.”
Not “control it.”
Not “fix it.”

Trust.

A Prepared Place

“There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”

John 14:2 NLT

This is not abstract theology. It is relational reassurance. You belong.
There is a place for you. Your future is not random. It is prepared.

For the disciples who are about to watch everything fall apart, Jesus anchors them in permanence.

The Cross would look like loss.
However, it is actually preparation.

How often does God prepare us through what feels like dismantling?

The Way, the Truth, the Life

When Thomas says, “We don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus responds.

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6 NLT

The Way is not found on a map, in a method, or in a philosophy.

The Way is a Person. His name is Jesus.

The Christian life is not about mastering directions as much as it’s about staying close to Jesus.

When you and I don’t know the way forward, we can walk with the Way.

“Show Us the Father”

Philip asks for something more visible.

“Show us the Father.”

And Jesus replies with what might be one of the most staggering statements in Scripture:

Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?

John 14:9 NLT

If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. He touches lepers. He speaks truth without cruelty.
He weeps. He forgives.

That is the Father.

The Helper

And then comes the promise:

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.

John 14:16 NLT

Jesus prepares them not just for His departure, but for indwelling Presence. They are not being abandoned. They are being inhabited. Peace, in this chapter, is not the absence of trouble.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

John 14:27 NLT

It is a different kind of peace that can coexist with crucifixion, uncertainty,
and waiting.

As you and I sit with John 14 today, we can ask:

• Where is my heart troubled?
• What am I trying to control instead of trust?
• Do I believe there is a place prepared for me?
• Am I walking with the Way, or demanding a map?

John 14 does not remove uncertainty.

It anchors our confidence in Christ.
