At the end of 2024, I wrote a post titled How to Start the Year with Good Spiritual Intentions that really started taking off at the end of 2025 as people began reading it at an increased rate as they prepared for 2026. It’s a post that continues to resonate well with readers visiting my blog. I’m grateful for all of you who have responded to it either with a comment or a like. I stepped into the new year with the hope for deeper faith, clearer focus, and a renewed commitment to walk closely with God.
Now we are nearly a quarter of the way through the year. This is usually the moment when reality catches up with the best of our intentions.
While January begins with clarity and confidence, by March, life has a way of getting off track. The routines we hoped to establish have faltered. Our quiet moments with God get disrupted by our responsibilities, fatigue, or the simple unpredictability of life.
But here’s the good news: the spiritual life is not measured by perfect consistency.
It is measured by perseverance. We can begin again. We can return to the path we veered away from.
The Grace of Returning
One of the great mercies of God is that we can begin again any day of the year. As a matter of fact, in recovery I learned that I had the ability to start my day over anytime I found it necessary.
The calendar may say March, but spiritually speaking, it can still be January. The invitation to draw near to God never expires. The door of prayer is never locked. The Scriptures never lose their voice. If the intentions you set at the beginning of the year have drifted, this is not failure.
It is simply an invitation to return.
A Mid-Year Spiritual Check-In
Rather than asking, “Did I keep my intentions?” a better question might be:
“Where is God inviting me now?”
Here are a few simple reflections you might consider as we move deeper into the year.
Return to Gratitude
Gratitude resets our perspective. It’s a game-changer that reminds us that God has been present even in the days when we weren’t paying attention.
So, take a moment today to thank God for what He has already done this year, both the blessings you expected and the ones you didn’t.
Revisit Your Spiritual Practices
At the start of the year, many of us commit to prayer, Scripture reading, or quiet reflection.
If those rhythms have slipped, don’t try to restart everything at once.
Just begin again with one small practice:
- a few minutes of prayer in the morning
- a single Psalm before bed
- a quiet cup of coffee with God before the day begins
Consistency grows out of simplicity.
Reclaim Silence
We live in a culture addicted to noise and busyness. But our soul often grows in silence.
Find small spaces again for stillness. Maybe that’s a walk, sitting on your patio, or a few quiet minutes before opening your phone in the morning.
God speaks in the quiet places.
Look for Opportunities to Serve Others
One of the quickest ways to reconnect with God is by loving someone else.
It might be something simple:
- encouraging a friend
- helping a neighbor
- volunteering your time
- showing kindness to someone who feels invisible
We encounter Christ most clearly when we serve others.
Extend Grace to Yourself
Friends, spiritual growth is not a straight line. There are seasons of passion and seasons of dryness; moments of clarity and moments of confusion.
The goal has never been perfection.
The goal has always been relationship.
The Journey Continues
If January represents the starting line, March reminds us that the spiritual life is not a sprint but a long walk with God.
And the beautiful truth is it’s never too late to realign your heart.
So wherever you are today, whether you’ve been walking closely with God or feel like you’ve wandered a bit, take a moment to pause, breathe, and begin again.
The year is just getting started and God’s grace is still abundant.

Until my next post…
Be salty, stay lit.
