Wednesday Wisdom | You’re Bot an Abandoned Project

There is a kind of prayer that rises from our deepest longing.

Not, “Save me from this.”
But, “Finish what You started.”

Psalm 138 ends with that kind of plea.

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Psalm‬ ‭138‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Do not abandon the work of Your hands, Lord.

It’s a thought that assumes something profound:
I am not self-made.
I am not an accident.
I am not raw material left languishing on a craftsman’s table.

I am the work of His hands.

You and I are creative works of God.

If we’re honest, being the work of His hands can feel unsettling.

His hands shape, press, and refine.
And sometimes, He allows parts to break before He rebuilds us. That’s off-putting and uncomfortable. It makes my soul squirm thinking about His pruning hands.

Friend, being formed by God is not always gentle. We don’t always see the finished work the way the Lord sees it. We aren’t just in the painting. We are the painting.

Psalm 138 holds two truths in the same breath. God will fulfill His purpose for you and me. The Lord will not abandon what—or who— He has made.

I am not afraid that God lacks the power to finish who He created.
I worry that He might lose interest.

After beginning something beautiful in me, He might move on. That’s the fear.

As if the Lord would leave me unfinished…

The psalmist anchors his plea in something unshakable.

Your steadfast love endures forever.”

Eternal love does not create temporary craftsmanship.

God does not discard His own artistry.

He does not invest years of shaping us through grief, through faithfulness, and through unseen obedience to simply walk away.

Friend, if you feel lowly, Psalm 138 says He looks kindly on you. When you feel surrounded by trouble, Psalm 138 says He preserves your life in the midst of it.
If you are feeling unfinished, Scripture reassures you that He will complete the work He began in you.

The Lord is not a negligent Creator.
He is not a distracted Father. God is not a sculptor who tires of working His block of stone.

We are not abandoned projects. We are the work of His hands. The hands that formed you are the same hands that hold you. God won’t quit and He won’t let go. He’s got you.
