365 Days. 3 Things I’ve Learned.

Well, look at that.

365 consecutive days of posting.

Apparently, I have now become the kind of person who can do something every day for a year.

Who knew?

When I started this journey, I wasn’t sure where it would take me. I didn’t have 365 posts mapped out when I began posting every day. But, I knew it was something that I wanted to do, or at least, try.

It wasn’t easy or simple. It was quite challenging, particularly the last two months, give or take a day.

I found that some days I had something I really wanted to say. Especially, early on.

On other days, the Holy Spirit and the blank screen had a little wrestling match.

Along the way, I’ve learned three things (at least).

Showing up beats waiting to feel inspired.

Some days the words flow. Some days they don’t. There were days when I had an idea before my first cup of coffee.

I tried to write ahead, rather than waiting for the day of. This is a smart strategy. Because there were days I stared at the screen thinking, “Well, Lord, apparently You and I are going to have to work this one out together.”

Truthfully, it always required the Lord. Still does. I’ve learned that consistency isn’t about always feeling motivated. It’s about showing up.

Pay attention.

This one may be the biggest lesson. The best things I wrote often started with something small like a conversation, or a Bible verse. There were plenty of hard days and even several funny moments and the nudge I almost ignored. Pay attention if you want to blog, write, or do anything remotely creative.

I’m increasingly convinced that paying attention is a spiritual discipline. God is at work all around us. We just miss a lot of it because we’re busy looking for something bigger.

You never know who needs what you have to say.

Let’s be honest. Posting something every day occasionally feels like standing in the middle of an empty room yelling, “HEY! I HAVE A THOUGHT!” Followed by refreshing the page to see if anybody noticed.

But every once in a while, someone sends a message:

“I needed this today.”

Game changer.

The point isn’t reaching everybody.

It’s being faithful with what God has given you and trusting Him with who needs it.

So here I am.

Day 365.

Still writing and still learning. Paying attention. Seeing where God is at work and inviting you to look for Him with me.

Posting every day is old hat for some. I’ve encountered bloggers who have posted for 3000 plus days in a row. Let that sink in. Don’t believe me? Type in 3000 consecutive days of blogging and see what pops up.

As for me, now that I’ve hit #365, I suppose I’ll keep going. Ive got 2635 days to go for me to hit 3000. By my math, that would be around October 26, 2033.

I think I’ll just focus on posting one day at a time.

After all, Day 366 is tomorrow.

And I have to figure out what to write.
