There are people I work with who leave their families to help other people in need for three to six weeks at a time, sometimes longer. I quickly realized that this is not me. I struggle with being gone from home for twelve hours, much less several days in a row.
I admire them.
Maybe that’s not my calling.
Seriously.
There’s something pretty remarkable about being willing to step away from the comforts of home and serve wherever you’re needed.
But I realized something about myself:
That’s not me.
Give me a long day at work, and I’m already thinking about my own bed, my wife, and my cats.
And you know what?
I’ve decided that’s okay.
We sometimes make the mistake of thinking that because something is a good way to serve God, it must be our way to serve God.
That isn’t true.
God has wired each of us differently. He gives us different gifts, different capacities, different responsibilities, and different callings.
Faithfulness isn’t about doing what someone else is doing. It’s about discovering what God has actually called you to do and then doing that faithfully.

I agree. When we compare ourselves to others, we set ourselves up for discouragement. The devil says, Why don’t you do this? You should be doing that.” Being faithful means doing, what I know in my heart, God is calling me to do. And we can pray, everyday, “not my will, but yours be done.” God bless you, Rainer, as you serve the Lord!
