Are These the Last Days?

These days, I talk with and interview a lot of people. I’ve noticed something that comes up in conversation more and more:

A lot of people think we’re living in the Last Days.

They believe Jesus is coming back sooner rather than later; like in our lifetime.

I understand why people feel that way.

Just look around.

There’s plenty happening in the world that makes you scratch your head and wonder how much more can we take?

We’ve been asking that question for a very long time. People living through wars, persecution, pandemics, political upheaval, economic uncertainty, and all kinds of social chaos have looked around and thought, Surely this is it.

And someday they’ll be right.

Maybe Jesus really will return in my lifetime. Perhaps He’ll return before I finish writing this sentence.

I don’t know.

Neither do you.

And Jesus was pretty clear about that.

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.”

So I’m trying not to get too caught up in predicting the end.

Instead, I’m asking a different question:

If these are the Last Days, how should I live today?

That question I can do something with.

I can love somebody, forgive somebody, or encourage somebody who is struggling. I can make something beautiful. I can be kind. I can stand for what is right without becoming ugly about it. I can shine a little light into somebody else’s darkness.

We can spend so much time trying to figure out when Jesus is coming back that we forget to actually live like people who are waiting for Him.

I can keep my eyes on Jesus.

Because whether Jesus comes back tomorrow, ten years from now, or long after I’m gone, today still matters.

Go tell somebody about Jesus.

Be salty, stay lit.
