Let Your Little Light Shine

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 (ESV)

Today you may be the only light someone sees or provide the only hope that anyone receives. As Christians, we are called to reflect the light of the Son, Jesus Christ, just like the moon reflects the light it receives from the sun.

When we treat others like we would like to be treated, speak and act in love and kindness, and emit a joy and demonstrate a spirit of gratitude as we interact with the people in the world around us, we reflect the source of our hope, the anchor of our faith, and the fountain of our love.

Are you selling something that others want? In other words, if people knew you were a Christian would they be drawn to Christ? A friend once told me that we’re either pointing people to Jesus or pushing them away. Food for thought. How are my actions and my words reflecting the Bread of Life?

As we let our light shine before others, we are helping to guide them toward the path to redemption and transformation that we have experienced ourselves. What more noble of a task can there be than this, but to point another to our Savior?

May God’s peace be with you and your light shine brightly before others so that they too can know the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

May it be well with your soul.
