German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang Goethe surmised that you and I can easily judge a person’s character by observing how they treat those who can do nothing for them. Being a godly person means that we treat others the way we would like to be treated, if not even better. Philosopher Immanuel Kant noted that we can judge a person’s heart by how they treat animals. As believers, it is important to remember that God created animals too and that we are to steward them well. I believe that a person who treats their animals with love and cares for them responsibly demonstrates their love of God through their actions.
