I Need You Lord | Finding Joy in Jesus

I don’t know about you, but I need God. I can’t really fathom trying to get through this life apart from Him. To be sure, this isn’t always how I felt. Once, my head and my heart remained distant from the Lord.

Before Jesus.

Now, I recognize the value in my relationship with my Creator, my Heavenly Father, my Savior, my Redeemer, my Help and Support. Today, by the grace of God, I am no longer the person who didn’t want anything to do with Jesus. Some folks might even call me a Jesus Freak.

And I’m okay with that.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2 (ESV)

You may be wondering if this faith stuff really works? Yes, I believe it does. I’ve seen it work. Matter of fact, I can’t imagine trying to go about life without faith. It’s too painful. Too hard. Pointless. While faith doesn’t give me all the answers, it does help me get to the shore on the other side.

Through faith, I can meet one-on-one with God on the mountaintop before I venture down to the valley of this world. The roads I travel tend to be bumpy. My faith in God has smoothed the ride at times. Other times, my faith has served as a shock absorber, lessening the blow and cushioning the fall.

Jesus came so that we could live abundantly (John 10:10), with joy, whereas those that war against us, seek to steal, kill, and destroy the life God intends us to live. To be clear, abundance isn’t about material possessions. It’s about the unbreakable spiritual connection with the God who made us; the God who is for us, not against us. Abundant life is a joy-filled experience involving spiritual work and growth. Yes, growing in righteousness requires commitment on our part. Thankfully, we are not alone. The Holy Spirit is here to guide us.

in your presence there is fullness of joy;

Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,

that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Psalm 90:14 (ESV)

If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

John 15:10-11 (ESV)

So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

John 16:22 (ESV)

8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
