Daily Devotional | Guarding Our Hearts

Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life.

Proverbs 4:23 (ESV)

The heart is the center of our physical and spiritual life. In spiritual speak, the heart often encompasses the whole person, including our mind, our emotions, and our will. Our thoughts, motives, and actions reveal who we truly are as individuals. Faith—what we believe about God—impacts how we live. We are responsible for the choices we make. What we choose to feed our souls fuels our heart. From our heart, flows how we strive to live. It is imperative that we guard our hearts with all attentiveness, keeping careful watch for potential dangers, toils, and snares. As we go about our week, between the time we awaken and lie our heads down to rest, let us exercise caution in what we allow in and what we let out, moving throughout the day prayerfully and in a manner that glorifies the very Jesus we strive to model in our daily lives.

Prayer: Lord, help me keep my heart in a manner that pleases You. Allow my words and deeds to align with my faith. Let how I live my faith glorify and honor You, my God, who gave His all so that I might live. Help me speak love, truth, and life into those who I encounter today. Father, help me be a student of Your word and a person of prayer, drawing closer to You. Help me guard my heart with all vigilance for I know from it flow the springs of life. Amen.
