What is the Greatest Journey? The Greatest Journey is a 12 lesson discipleship program where kids learn what it means to follow Jesus and how to effectively share their faith with friends and family. After receiving the shoebox gifts packed, processed, and prayed over by thousands of volunteers in sending countries, numerous children attending community outreach events receive an invitation to participate in the discipleship program that includes Bible stories and Scripture memorization. Since 2009, nearly 20 million children have participated in the program.
Operation Christmas Child offers more than just a tangible, material gift. It shares the eternal good news and great joy that comes with knowing Jesus as Lord and Savior. The Greatest Journey is perhaps the best kept, unintended secret ministry initiative of Samaritan’s Purse OCC ministry.
Upon completing The Greatest Journey, the children attend a graduation celebration and receive a certificate commemorating their participation and successful completion of the program. Each child is given a Bible that includes a New Testament, selected Old Testament stories, a dictionary of Biblical terms, and a map of the Bible lands. Packed with illustrations, it is likely the first copy of God’s Word that either the child or their family owns.
Family, friends, and neighbors are invited to attend the ceremony where each of them hears the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Hearing the testimonies of the children helps reinforce the changes they have seen first hand in the lives of these neighborhood kids who have come to faith in Christ.
Through the ministry of Operation Christmas Child and the discipleship of The Greatest Journey, we are seeing God multiple believers in large numbers.
As always, thank you for reading.
