Anxiety attacks us at our most basic core. The uncertainity of the unknown plays on our inner fears. The societal unrest amid the COVID-19 pandemic is a perfect cocktail for upping our anxiety and fear. But God did not create us to be fearful, timid, or anxious. We forget that God is in control of our lives, not us. He knows the number of our days.
It’s easy to focus on our anxieties and our fears rather than being grateful for the daily blessings we enjoy. We quickly forget that the same God who woke us up this morning is with us throughout the day, wherever we go. He loves us and cares for us. He is for us and delights in us. The Lord is able to free us from our fears and anxieties. God is our peace.
Here are 7 Scriptures to help you endure a season flooded with anxiety and fear:
“I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me, freeing me from all my fears.”
Psalm 34:4 (NIV)
For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will destroy them;
but whoever listens to me will live in safety
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”
Proverbs 1:32-33 (NIV)
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
Isaiah 54:10 (NIV)
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:6 (NIV)
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
God has said, “Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.”
Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises.
2 Peter 1:3-4 (NIV)
I pray that you will find comfort in God’s Word and that these 7 Scriptures point you to the source of our peace.
