An Evening Devotional | October 1, 2020

Tonight, as I sit here in Mom’s living room watching a rerun of her favorite mystery show, Father Brown, I am overwhelmed by people’s kindness. All this week, the generosity and kindness of others has shown itself over and over again.

This morning, during our men’s ministry study of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and believers from other surrounding churches, I was struck by the incredible kindness of God, who chose us in Christ before the beginnings of the world. How incredible it is to ponder the length God was willing to go to redeem a wretch like me!

Kindness has shown itself in the voices of my Christian brothers and sisters who check on me and ask how my Mom’s recovery is coming along. Kindness has shown itself in the phone calls, food, and bouquets of flowers people have sent or brought by to brighten Mom‘s day.

I had a great conversation with my boss, who showed me great love and kindness.

And then, to my big surprise, the ladies my wife Terri works with sent me a care package which contained a score of thoughtful gifts, including a humungous bag of M & M’s and a copy of one of my favorite books, The Screwtape Letters, written by C.S. Lewis. Again, I found myself overwhelmed by the kindness of others.

And those are just the beginnings..

I’m willing to bet that if you look for them, you can find the fruits of people’s kindness in your life, too. My guess is you won’t need to look far.

As this day ends and tomorrow begins, I urge you, my brothers and sisters, be an encouragement to someone by demonstrating kindness to them. Shower them with the same loving kindness God has lavished upon you. Be the Gospel they so desperately need to see. For the praise of His glory.

Prayer:

Father God, thank You for lavishing us with kindness. In response, may we shower others with kindness to the praise of Your glory.

Blessings,

The Devotional Guy™
